Headphones

Hey guys,
Just wondering what headphones you guys use? Right now I've just got a $50 pair of Sony's that I got like 3 years ago. They're good, but not noise cancelling enough to DJ with.
I'm thinking about grabbing a pair of Pioneer HDJ 1000's. Any thoughts?

Sennheiser HD 25's. Have had the same set for about 8 years now. Have had to replace the earpads a few times and occasionally the cords need a little jiggle but after 8 years you have to expect a little wear and tear. I'm looking at replacing them soon and am tempted to try some AKG's as I use a set of AKG271's in the studio and am really taken with them and curious how there DJ model hold up but in all likleyhood I'll just end up with another pair of Sennheisers. Any time I've tried using anything else the weight, fit, or bass reflex has dissapointed me but the Sennies never let me down. Have also seriously considered a Vestax hand held stick style after using one but don't know if I'm cool enough to carry it off. Probably not.
You say your cans aren't " noise cancelling enough " ? I'm not sure it's noise cancelling your after. Surely you need to be able to hear everything in your playing envioroment to be able to DJ, not just what's on your headphones?
Peace in the middle east.............. Rhys.

nice, I use Sennheisers as well, use the HD280s, the sound quality is VERY CRISP AND CLEAR and it really cancels out the noise as it fits tightly and comfortably over your ears.
I know some people didnt like these headphones because it didnt have enough bass, I think its fine unless you really want the bass to be bumping really loud.
Paid about 140-150 CAD (bout the same after conversion to AUS dollars)

The man is right. HD25's all the way. I got my pair about a year ago, and will never use anything else for gig's.

I cant reccommend the hd 25 s enough.. I am an my second pair only because I snapped the cord in a moment of alcohol induced vagery..
My first set I had from 89- 99 and were great. This pair I ve had for 3 years and cant fault them..
Dont skimp on the phones as they are critical..

I personally dont use the HD25s cuz I mix with both ears open, only dipping into the headphones when needed so I can enjoy and concentrate on the overall sound. To mix like this I have found the Audiotechnica's to be the best chunkys around. Lots of volume and really comfortable (and unbreakable)

I can't say I've ever used the pioneer range of headphones, but I can say I bought a pair for under $100 off Ebay, I think they were around $50 if I remember correctly, they do a really good job as far as loudness yet no distortion and noise canceling go.

Thats them there.
EDIT:
Wow, just had a look at the Pioneer HDJ1000's and realized mine are a complete cheapo copy of them haha, but meh, they do the job.

well i use technics 1210s i dont like the sound the senheisers produce its not warm enough for my liking. the sennheisers do fit well and are light on the head. But thats just my opinion.

I mix almost exclusively in my headphones and highly recommend the Ultrasone DJ range. For my money, their surround sound technology is the best.
Supreme clarity at half the volume (if not less) of many of the others mentioned above. Not half the price, unfortunately, but there's no denying you get what you pay for.
Had them for years - they've travelled the world with me and are as solid and great sounding as the day I first plugged them in.

Otherwise have a listen, get one with good bass response, i use SONY MDR's, find them very accurate and am used to them

I had a pair of hdj 1000s for about a year before the earpeice broke they were pretty good headphones but ive moved over the hd 25s now as well and cant speak highly enough of them especially if you gig a bit because that can be pretty hard on gear and if you do break something on them your not up for another 2-300 dollars.
Good cans are a must. Ive also had experience with technics 1210 headys and they have a better design than the hdj 1000s with a swiveling earpeice instead of the ball joint type earpeice which is prone to beakages I also thought that the technics had a bit better sound quality than the hdj 1000s with less distortion at higher volume levels.
Ive heard that the new hdj 2000s by pioneer are going to have replaceable parts but i couldnt verify that anywhere, they look alright with all magnesium constuction, $450 is a little steep though for cans their would nearly want to be able to suck your cock for that money in my opinion. The hd 25s have been around for ages for a reason the the mark II versions have sorted the 2 little problems i ever had with old ones now that they have a longer cord and the 6.5 mm jack screws on instead of the old push on version.

Can't go past Sennheiser as
Can't go past Sennheiser as a brand. Check them out. I've got HD25s. Brilliant, and you can't beat the clarity and freq range for the price. Or, try the Technics range.
Good luck.
