Remix Legality
Submitted by stu-con on Tue, 20/03/2007 - 2:05am.
Is it ok for remixes with un-cleared samples be uploaded?
There is only currently one remix on this website (cleared or not, it’s good) and I was looking to add a couple.
I want to be sure where users stand with this legal issue.

Good one!!!! I'm not sure to be honest...
What about our dj mixes, mush ups, podcasts etc, are they legal? I think that as far as the remix or DJ mix is not for sale and it's uploaded for private use, there shouldn't be any legal problems.

I'm pretty sure you can only use samples from commercial releases if you can't recognise them in your remixes. I'm not sure what the restrictions are regarding 'personal use'.
I read that copyright is on the artists material while they are alive and then 70 years after their death. Then you can nab them without clearance.
Do you think you'll be still releasing tracks when you're 90+

You'd need to get a recording of one of his actual performances first
cause there'd be copyright on any recent performances by that performer if you get my drift.
