Stolen...

So my laptop was stolen on Thursday night from the club I work at in Cairns. Some asshole went into the lighting booth when I wasn't there and shoved my Mac Book Pro under his shirt and ran out with it. Hopefully we have him on security cameras though.
I had about 70gb of music on there that wasn't backed up. Most of it was downloaded and not burnt to CD. Soooooo angry.
So, in order to keep this thread from being a rant, I was wondering, what is your backup strategy? Do you backup every time you download new music? Backup just to CDs or to external hdds?

That totally sucks dude .. fccck .. bastard!!
I bought a kingston lock for my laptop and after hearing your story I'm going to use it every time from now on.
You should get yourself and external hard drive to backup to .. you can get 1TB these days for only $160 .. totally worth the peace of mind. I always sync my music to my drive before heading out to play. I also store a copy of it all at work.
Hope you get your stuff back man.

My god that sucks! I hope for your sake they ID the fuckhead. Also, do you have your MacBook Pro locked down with passwords?
I back my MacBook Pro up to my file server, a simple transfer/replace existing command run through terminal to my File Server's drop box directory once a week when I go to bed.
I love having 4TB of actual data storage, Raid 5 + 0

Contact the site's where you purchased the track's, let them know what happened, chance's are they will re upload your account.
70gig would have cost a shit load, i'd be pissed.
I burn a copy of every tune i buy, plus back up.

Multiple hard drives and burning to DVD. I had 140gb worth plus some near finished tracks vanish into the abyss when my internal hard drive gave up the ghost. I never trust anything to just one back-up source as hard drives fail and DVD's can scratch or be misplaced.
You might have trouble with the sites you downloaded the music from letting you re-download the tunes you lost as they are still on your stolen laptop and not destroyed. Essentially that means that the person who stole your laptop has effectively stolen your license to those tunes despite the fact you payed for them and have receipts for them. It's a strange scenario but they would happily allow you to have them again as long as no one else had the other copies of them. Good luck though.
I hope you catch the slimey fucker that did it. As life goes on I realize just how important it is to respect your fellow citizens of the world and everything around you and people that take liberties like that just drag us all down. They have no regard for the effect they have on others it's pure conceited selfishness. It starts with littering and ends in mass genocide. I'm not even kidding. He deserves a good kicking.
Peace in the middle east.............. Rhys.
