What's your set up?
Submitted by baax on Sun, 11/03/2007 - 12:20am.
I use two old 1200 mk2's, American audio cdi-300 cd player and a Numark Axis 2 cd player with a Numark Dxm09 mixer. One of my turntables has been stuffing up latley, i was thinking of swapping it for a bass guitar seeing as I use cd's most of the time anyway.
Both my cd players are average, meaning you have to ride the pitch all the time but i've found i enjoy this and it makes for way tighter mixing when useing cdj 1000's etc.
Anyway enough about my crappy set up, what do you use?

I bought some vinyl years ago but recently when I decided to get more serious about DJing I went with a CD only setup
I have 2 Pioneer CDJ 100s and a Pioneer DJM-3000 mixer. I also have a DJM-300 mixer which I don't use now.
The CDJ 100s are good to get started on. The one thing I would like now is finer pitch control as the 100s can only adjust by .1. The newer models have .05 or .02 which would be good

Ross.... I believe you've got the most simple & most effective solution in your hands.. I've spend a fortune on what I got and I've realised that the CDJ 100's perform just as good as the expensive ones... Playing with the cdj 100's at many gigs they never seem to let me down... I recomend you to explore the option of mp3 DJ'ing with your laptop.. I believe its a great new way to dj...

I use a Behringer BCD-2000 DJ console with an LG core duo 2 laptop
The software I use is djDecks for mixing and Ableton 6 for making tracks.
I tried mixing with Ableton but found it better to go with a dedicated piece of software.

I really like having cd's with the .1 adjustment, when i got to play out on cdj 1000's i found my mixing was way tighter.
Having said that though i would love a pair of 1000's.

I think that CDJ 800's and CDJ 1000's are way better than the 100's and 200's because it's so much more similar to playing a record. I went from owning 1200's then I brought CDJ 800's and it was a simple switch. I've tried to use CDJ 200's but they were just too hard for me to use because I was used to vinyl. You can't manipulate the sound in the same way.
By the way, I have:
1200's X 2
CDJ 800's X 2
DJM 600

Sounds like what all you CDJ's need is Final Scratch. Digital MP3s, and still the feel, look, smell and taste (for all you hardcore wax junkies
) of vinyl
One of my boys back home has it, and I've heard no complaints at all. I've spun on it many times, and the only problem I see with it, is that you cant decide what to mix because you have 5000+mp3's to choose from.
I don't DJ, so I don't have any of that type of gear, but what I do have:::
-AMD AthlonXP @ 2.5Ghz
-1.5Gb RAM
-Soundblaster Audigy ZS Platinum w/Live IR 5 1/4" Bay (Midi in/out, SPDIF in/out, Optical in/out).
-Altec Lansing Studio Monitors
-Novation ReMOTE 25SL (otherwise known as 'The General') *Commence drooling for the Automap*
-V-Station
-Cubase SX3
-Reason 3.0C
-Shitload of VST's [over 150] (Everything Novation, Everything Native Instruments, Everything Steinberg, and a tonne of other Misc. VST goodies)
-Abelton Live 5.2
And thats about all.
Oh yeah!
-And 2 squishy Cats named Bubbs and Lu
-Cheers

thats what i used to think but i brought one just to play accapellas and stuff. didnt think they would sound anywhere near as good. well turns out they sounds better, are way more fun, make you sound better, so much cheaper ($2 a track rather than $20), CD's can be relaced for cents, you can manipuate the sound so much better (auto cue, loops, etc.), etc, etc, etc.
all in all they are so much better, im even thinking about selling my dex and buying one more cdj. just a question, have you tried one, by yourself, with no pressure? the cdj800 and cdj1000 are exactly the same as vinyl, you can cue it like vinyl, scratch, scratch it in, etc. i never thought i would say it but i love them!

V-Station VST. The fatness of that synth, gets me aroused.
lol
I would suggest playing around with that VST.
Also, if you have access to Reason, the Malstrom Rack in there has some really fat samples. I can hook you up with some samples for that synth if u want (that is, if you have reason).
K. . Time for breakfast.
Cheers m8.
