Hey man, Well probably everyone will recommend the one they use! Which platform are you n mac or pc? For example, if you are on a pc then u could start with fruity loops, which is inexpensive and can create wicked tunes however personally i think it has a very strange interface.. on a mac you could start out playing around with garageband (which already comes with the computer) and once you start moving forward you could move on to logic express e.t.c...

There are soo many different sequencers out there, i.e cubase, logic, reason, live.. and you can make wicked tunes on all of them, nowadays with technology all are very powerful, it really depends on what you feel most comfortable with then learning how to use the one you chose properly!

As a less expensive yet powerful tool which is an all in one bundle there is reason, ableton live is also very very good and extremely versatile. you could use it as a production tool and also spice up your dj sets, its crazy what you can do with it. Logic is crazy powerful, but you have to have a powerful mac and it takes time to fully master. Cubase is also powerful, however you would have t invest in extra VSt instruments as the ones it comes with arent very good. All are VST?AU expandable except reason. And these range in price quite a bit.

So ya, it all depends on how much your willing to spend, what platform you are on, how powerful your computer is and looking at them and seeing the one you feel most comfortable on. I use Logic Pro 7 as my main sequencer, and i rewire Reason 3 into it and somtimes ableton live. I also use ableton for djing to do 'on the fly' remixing and so on....

Hope this helps a little..

It's funny you say that. I use FL Studio and I think other programs have a "very strange interface". I can't figure out how to use Cubase for the life of me.

Yeah, know what you mean! I use logic, and now i'm doing a new collaboration and the studio we're in runs off cubase and i still cant get to grips with it. Although coming off logic it makes sense, whereas coming off fruity loops i would have noooo clue!

Glad it helped! Ableton is a wicked program, just make sure u get some good VST instruments to add on so u can really use it to its full potential!
