Question

I have a drum kit and will soon be buying a bass guitar, i want to make my own bent hip hoppy stuff, like Dj Krush(legend)
So i'll be looking to multitrack the drums and bass and then add electronic elements to that.
Any ideas on decent but not to expensive software for mulitrack recording?
My soundcard is standard(came with computer 4yrs ago) so i'd have to upgrade that.
This is purely for my own enjoyment so im not looking for top of the line.

If you have sequencers like for an example the fruity loops, you can multitrack easily, with fx and those things. But for mixing and that I prefer Audition, it's more dedicated but it's only for mixing and I believe It's not well finished on asio compatibilities.
If you are thinking on bass thing in a preamplifier or a direct injection box and a soundcard to plug it... If you don't have money for a soundcard with a mic in (a decent one XLR), then thing on a ceaper but manage your bass with a preamp and connect to the soundcard by line. The preamp gives the micked instruments a really harmonic sound.

So I need a soundcard with a xlr input, and Fruity Loops or something similar to sequence.

I prefer to record in my pc, because I can edit the sounds and add after effects and all of this. In an example, I record guitars using a direct injection box to the XLR mic input, I record using the guitar rig distortion and reverb but i record the clean track then It goes to the fxs... Then I compress a little the clean guitar and clean unwanted sounds like a hum In certain parts... then when the sound arrives to the fxs, The hum not affect the delay or something... I have more control, so the bass It's recorded the same.
I record with DI box to the mic line because my mic amp It's good. Common cards have a very cheap mic amp, so that's why I said, record on a decent card usng a DI and xlr input or use a preamp and plug the bass by line. There are in the market very good preamps for bass and guitars using tubes... a very warm sound... cool.
