I am... but up until now I haven't had a controller. This changes everything! I've been using purely a laptop and software (sans controller, proper soundcard and speakers)
Oh right, glad I'm not con-fooz-ed! Can I suggest that the next thing you add to your studio should be these foam risers that you put under your monitors. They reduce the amount of reverberation transfered to and from you desktop that can colour the sound and you can get them so that they angle upward towards your ear level so you get a much better representation of sound. A friend gave them to me for my birthday last year and the difference they made was immense. Don't think they cost too much but they will probably be the best purchase you make at this stage.
trial and error, my friend, trial and error
On that note, I have a Korg Radias that i bought for producing, but i only use it as a controller -- i have not used it's sounds in a production once! (logic soft synths are just so much easier) XD
I'm loving the Saffire 6... great quality with the freedom to push it hard without undesired consequences, depending on your monitors. Also a great plug n play device that's really tough and I guess it wasn't too expensive. A really great build.
The only criticism is that it appears to have disabled my laptop's default sound card drivers.
The MPK49 is so much fun. Great playability with a really professional feel and good compatibility to a range of softwares. I'm not a musician but with Ableton there's nothing I can't do in tandem the MPK (as long as I have a decent, structured idea first).
The keys aren't loose at all and the built in drum pad is handy. The number of dials and knobs makes it really assignable to effects and EQ's as well.
No criticism of the MPK49 - even the price was good (just over $300) for such an awesome brand (IMO).
Good luck mate.. if there's anything specific you want to know, feel free to ask and I'll have a play around and find the answer for you.
Cheers Luke,
Im interested in the Saffire because of the two inputs, eg when my mate comes up and we plug our guitars in to jam with a drum loop.
Ive heard it's a solid unit.
I had a bit of a play with the MPK 49 on Sunday, really like the feel of it.
Where did you get it from for that price?
Yeah my M-Audio Audiophile has been playing up on me lately (sometimes when playing out) just cutting in and out so I thought it was about time I got a new interface so I ordered the Focusrite Saffire 6. Looking forward to it. Looks like a solid unit.

BTW, don't know how to use any of this stuff yet... hopefully I can organise a tutorial or class or something soon.
Don't be expecting any magic from me just yet

No worries mate The extra
No worries mate
The extra controls on the front of the Saffire 6 also make it an extremely diverse unit. It was also sold to me as being able to DJ with.
Glad you like the keyboard... it does have a professional and really solid feel to it doesn't it?
I got both the MPK and the Saffire at StoreDJ.
Cheers
