Junkbeats digital is based in Byron Bay, Australia. The label show cases original quirky minimal tech to tech house music original productions and collaborations from Australian artist ranging from the deep melodic vocal sound of 20for7, the minimal glitch sounds of Fo_Sek, and Ed Function, the tweaked tech sounds of Servo (Basek), Jimi Polar and Headland, and to the progressive sounds of Kriece and Basek.
Junkbeats long term strategy includes focusing on combinations of acoustic and electronic sounds driven under the guidance of producer/engineer Dave Basek, creative director Phil Smart and promotions by Mark Briais and George Salik. This collective has now formed to produce the Junkbeats Digital label with distribution exclusively through Beatport
The Artist
Dave Basek is the main man behind Junkbeats His involvement in electronic music has lead to a string of releases and remixes over the past decade on a variety of labels over the globe such as Hussle, EQltd, Kindred Sounds, Soma, Lazy Days, Chocoflash, Saved and Blacksoul recordings.. Basek has worked with a wide variety of producers including Fred Everything, Dano, Alexkid, and in 2002 Basek co-produced H-Foundation’s (USA) debut album “Foundation”, released on Soma recordings. More recently Basek has been collaborating with Kriece (Perth), Phil Smart (Sydney), Ed function, and Jimi Polar with his productions being remixed by the likes of Trentemoller, Joey Youngman, Djinxx and Dave Robinson.
Phil Smart has been playing records in clubs, warehouses and fields across the world for over 15 years. Phil has appeared twice in DJ Magazine's list of the world's Top 100 DJs and is also one of the founders of seminal Australian electronic labels Think and Thunk recordings releasing music as ‘Altitude’ and ‘Earthlink’. As Junkbeats creative director Phil Smart now has an outlet to share his refined taste of music to the public with original productions locked in for future releases on the label.
Ed Function is a 28 year old. Is an Australian producer currently residing in Switzerland. His music uses the basic structures of house and techno as a backdrop for textural ambient soundworks. Favouring a digital approach, various reprocessed sounds mix with synthetic beats and melodic elements to create discrete listening techno. His works have been released under psychedelic kitchen records, standard klik, term records,. An album and ep’s are in the pipeline this year.
Jimi Polar is a classically trained pianist where his skills on the keys have seen him lays down synths for Hipp-E, Halo and Deepchild, among others. Electronic textures and tech beats with an attention to detail are his trademark sounds. Jimi has previous releases on the Future Classic, Kindred, Junkbeats and NRK recordings.
