try adding some layers to the drums, kinda sounds like a raw drum machine, which isn't bad, just a smidgen lackluster in the timbre department. keep it up mate

thanks dude i was aiming
thanks dude
i was aiming for a bit of a vintage sound, inspired by tb303 and the tr909 that i've been shopping for lateley, so i've gone for a more natural drum sound like the 909. However emulating these rolands is def not easy. heaps of things say they "copied" the 303 but nope it just doesn't have the same warmth that 303 get. WOULD KILL FOR 303!
Thanks for your feedback mate
Ps. Timbre? plz explain. i looked it up but its one of those words with fifty meanings! lol
mentioned
it is a kinda multi-meaning
it is a kinda multi-meaning word, sorry for that heh. What i meant was giving the drums more personality kinda, not eq'd / processed differently, just different harmonics.
In a nutshell (someone correct me if im way out on this one), Timbre is what allows the human ear to differentiate between one instrument and another even though they are playing the same note e.g. saxophone sounds different to a trumpet etc. With drums it's similar, timbre is the 'type' of drum.
As for layering and timbre, some people will for example, use an 808 kickdrum for the bassy part of their kick, and another drum with the lows eq'd out for the top end. It's this top layer that can convey the timbre of a drum quite well if you get me.

Not bad mate, though a little one dimensional perhaps? By this I mean you seem to rely whole-heartedly on the 303 sound. In my opinion you could still utilise the 303 but in conjunction with something else aswell to give it more depth and variety maybe. Perhaps throw in some more driving percussion elements and a rolling bassline. Nice sinister edge to it.

I think you've done a good job with this mate, considering it's totally composed. Well done, it's well and truly 'acid'.
And it progresses nicely into something a bit harder, which is nice. I just think that the bassline kick you've used was a bit limiting... it didn't really allow for the track to go beyond its own 'vibe' to something a bit 'darker' perhaps. Change it up a bit throughout the track. I'm also not sure that you needed to finish the track the same way you started it... although i do like the percussion structure towards the end... becomes very breakbeat. Nice.
All in all, a very enjoyable track - just don't be afraid to use harder kicks.
We all love a good punchy kick.

Hey its a creepy one thats for sure. Cool melody and I like how it varies, not all the same riff. Tight tho, everything is where it should be except the genre for the track. It would of been cooler just as breaks. Good improv tho.

Hi Nik
There are a few things that you need to look at.
Firstly, do you have studio monitors?
The EQ on your track needs some attention, here's what your overall average EQ looks like:
Here's what a professional techno track looks like (Chris Liberator), I know it's a different style, but all the elements are there.

(Your track has been overlayed and you can see the difference)
Also, the whole track was mono
I had a go at fixing the eq, doing some stereo widening and limiting. I only spent 20 minutes so it's no perfect.
Hopefully you can hear the difference.
I think:
Your kick could have been much louder with more bass
Add some reverb to the percussion
Pan some of the drums slightly left and right to give some more depth
Add some bass to your melody sound so it fills the eq a bit more.
Hope this helps.
Mark
