We wrote this down tempo, but very melodic vocal track with the very talented Sara Levine a few years ago as an acoustic / vocal track. A few years after playing it out at bars etc acoustically we decided it needed a shot of digital steroids....here's the result.
The track was written (and mixed) entirely in Cubase SX2. We used various soft synths, cut up drum loops and dragged and dropped individual drum hits onto the grid the old school way....
FYI the vocal was recorded under a crappy doona because our studio hadn't been acoustically corrected way back then. Just goes to show that a good doona can do as good a job as vocal booth...(but you get sore arms holding the F#!@ing thing up for a few takes...
Peace,
Waz and Jake

Great job man ... what does a "a shot of digital steroids" entail? I think I would have used a more of a whooshing electronic sound than that crash cymbal. Small detail I know ... I really dug it though.

Great track guys but just a few things...
1 the vocals need some spatial work and I feel a little filter work in places... very subtle to give it some edginess
2 Definately needs some mastering and levelling in places
3 Needs some more effects in places coming in on some Auxes.
Just my POV but really like it and I see why your doing some work with PQM as it has an all to familiar sounds about it.
ie PQM...
Nice fellas!!

We are planning on revisiting this track soon as the last time we even had the project open was about 2 years ago. Will import the track into Logic Pro 8 to clean it up and show you guys the results once complete.

Look forward to hearing the updated version when its posted. Good work though. A good way to save your arms from doona fatigue is slinging it over a shower curtain rail or shower cubicle. You might get some reflections from the tiles depending on the environment but sometimes they can just add a spacial element to it.

Uh, Mike point taken but I didn't mean to imply that glass surfaces be left exposed but rather insulated by the doona or doonas. Only the more stable and harder to cover tiled surfaces would reflect. I have now felt the wrath of Mike though and thanks breaking me in lightly.

Hey guys - really liked the track. Very crisp sound, maybe a little too 'synthetic' for my tastes but the production is nonetheless pretty fantastic.
