New Track I composed. My Inspiration was Reason 4 coming out. Believe it or not, its actually made solely with Reason. Sounds crispy. Smiling

**EDIT**
Changed the low synth sound a bit, and added a little more bass as requested. Smiling

brought up
Some small things wrong...

...that I fixed up.
measure 32 (when the clap/snare first comes in) -- removed a hihat that didnt get muted when it should have.

measure 96-128 (breakdown) -- reduced the low synth volume level by 2, changed the sequence pattern)

measure 128 - end -- changed the sequence pattern of the low synth, as well as the mod wheel effect (was reversed from measures 128-164)

Enjoy all. Smiling Would love some comments and critiques on this track (as well as some voting love Smiling )

Boeko, man.....

Right, well where can I start? First off, well done (again), brother. This track has a lushness to it that immediately captured my ears and made my mind wander off into itself - if you follow what I mean. A kind off "thinking man's track", if you will. Although, listening to your other stuff, this does not come as a surprise at all.
I love the soft synth stabs, and the way they gradually build throughout the track. I also really like the sweeping, almost haunting, background synth (apologies for the repetitive description ie: "synth", but not having a great deal of production experience at the moment, my sound bank vocabulary is a bit limited Eye-wink ). I also particularly like the highs, and the way you build them up over the course of the track. I'm a bit of a highs person myself, so I enjoy hearing a bit of variation - for example when you bring in the quicker, "stuttered" (?) high hat @ the 2:05 mark - nice touch.

Now, the constructive critique bit. I think a longer break-down would really add to this track. Perhaps using the sweeping background sound(s), and some other soft "eerie" sounds. Incorporating / building in the change-of-key synth stab (the one that comes in at around 3:40) could work well. Something that would take the listener's journey a bit deeper into the mental forest, before gently steering them back on course for the remainder of the track ("Run along now, wee one. There's nowt down there for kiddies!")

I might also be inclined to play with the bass a little. I like the overall sound (soft, flowing), but I might be inclined to build a little bit of a deep rumble, or growl - not a change in key or anything, but something to thicken it up a bit - y'know, just to draw out the low end a bit and put a bit more emphasis on it (after the suggested break-down, perhaps?).

As I said before, I'm a bit of a highs fan, and the only suggestion I'd make is to perhaps try to step up the complexity (read: subtle variation) of the high hat pattern(s) a bit.

My production experience is a bit limited, so I hope I've conveyed my thoughts effectively (remembering, of course, that these are just my thoughts Sticking out tongue ). The fact of the matter is that this track had me to actually really listening to all it's components (regardless of the feedback request) - the hallmark of a damn fine producer, in my mind.

Well, that's my two cents on the matter, Boeko. I really like your style, and as a footnote, I'm really liking the look / sound of Reason 4. I was tossing up between Abelton and Reason (although, to be honest, I've been leaning in the Reason direction since I first played with the demo....), and I think this might just have sealed the deal. Kudos.

Yeh .. u can definately

Yeh .. u can definately describe this track as 'Lush' Laughing out loud

like the bass sound Smiling niice sound too it.. luv the more ressy part of it Eye-wink

its too repetitive for my likeing, would do well with sum changes in the bassline throughout.. every 16/32 bars ....

like it where it drops a bit....dig that synth that comes in Laughing out loud

as brown trout mentioned above..would sound great with a more gnarly sound too it (builds into it ) and it would be better if the bass was more subby too

defo kept me interested for the whole tune though Smiling

I could imagine a really niice breakz version of this Eye-wink hehe

niice work

Havin trouble...

Thanks for the crit. Smiling I love getting detailed criticism like this. Gives me a lot to work off of. Thanks a tonne m8s Smiling

perhaps its cuz Im hung over, but Im having trouble revamping this track,,,,, so Im back to where I started again, having 90% of the track the way I want it, and 10% oblivious. lol
If I wasnt so selfish about my music, I would probably have teamed up with someone by now, to put my tracks over the top. hehe

I tried adding in another bassline -- something a little more umph'y,, more fatness, if ya dig. I just havent found the right sound, and Im a little short on patience this afternoon (and CPU usage). lol

With the breakdown (McB), I was initially going to extend it for another16 measures with exactly what you were talking about, some real eerie sounding shize, with some "washing" synth panning in and out, and up and down the frequency/rez channels, --- like just drop everything out except for the bassline, and high synth (when you 'expect the song to tear into the last 64 measures), shove in that washy sound, then bring everything down with an envelope controlled filter, or something, then bounce into the last half of the track,,, but I spent 4 hours trying to find something that I could dig, and didnt find it, so I had to temporarily curb that idea.

I def agree though that it is lacking some serious fatness on the bass side, so I think Im gonna start there, and keep diggin til I find something that works for me.

As for the low synth thats already in there, and relating it to some more variation -- I've tried a shitload of variations in the past couple hours on it, and nothing really kicks it out above and beyond what its already at (so far). The one thing that I will do to that bassline, is fill in that gap in the synth about 3/4 the way through the measure, with an off note, on key tone (once again, if ya dig.. hehe).

Man, my head hurts.
Word to the wise, watch out for Gin and Tonic. ... Shit sneaks up on ya real quick, and kicks you in the back of the head repeatedly the next day.

Cheers m8s, and thanks again. Cool

Reason

I use Reason 3 to make all my tracks and look forward to getting my hands on reason 4 so I can play with the new Analogue synth Laughing out loud . Did you use that new Synth to get some of the sounds on here? And is this a mastered or un-mastered version.

I like how at the end of the break the synth turns a little dark before it comes in and it builds really really nicely Evil . The track sounded great to me! I don't think it was too repetitve as some of the other comments suggested. However a new add to the bass-line once in a while might help (i.e. last mesure of the phrase before the new phrase begins throw an extra note or two in there) Eye-wink to emphasize a change/hype the listener a little. The melody was great and everything worked in harmony musically. I really enjoyed it!

Thanks for the crit Smiling

Yes I used the new "Thor" synth as well as the new Arpeggiator. I really love that new synth. Can't wait til they come out with some refill packs for it. But honestly they really arent needed, because the synth is so damn customizable. Really dig it.
You'll love how they completely changed the sequencer panel. Laughing out loud So impressed with it. More like Abeltons sequencer (which is flawless).

This track is still unmastered. Well, half-mastered. I always put my tracks through a mastering suite before I compile them to WAVs.

Im in brainstorming mode on this track, and I got a few thoughts now as how to make the track better, and more bassy, with a tad more variations. But Im not going to work on it just yet, til I have it all clear and worked out in my head.

Thanks for all the critiquing people. Smiling I appreciate it, and always welcome more. Smiling

Revised this track.

I revised this track, with the input from you all. I hope you dig it.

Changed the low synth sound a bit, so it veers away from the repetitive side -- also adds a little more groove to it.

I also added a bass synth to the track to give it some more b4S5!!ONE11!! (this ones for u grafite) I kinda dig what I did. I used an arpeggiator on a 1/4D pattern (third notes) to kind of throw the track for a whirl. Its real minimal, and kinda hard to spot out, but I think u'll dig the subtlety of it.

I didnt add an extension to the breakdown, but I did revise it a bit. I added a few delay, and reverb effects to the sweeping background synth, and drumline, that kinda washes it all away right at the end of the breakdown, before it crashes back into the 3/4 of the track. I dont think it needs an extension to the breakdown honestly, but I do know what ur talking about def. McB. I've been wanting to experiment with that breakdown extension idea on other tracks Im working on, but I need to verse myself a little more on certain effects to really make the breakdown soar, and fly around (if u know what I mean).

Enjoy all, and please, leave comments, and VOTE!@!!! Laughing out loud Laughing out loud Laughing out loud

Like the changes

Hello Boeko,

Yep, like the changes you've made to the B-line. I also respect the break down, or rather your conviction not to extend it. I do like the subtle changes / effects you've added. I can't wait to hear those other tracks once you get a hold on the "certain effects to make it soar" Smiling

Like the over all extra beefiness. Just what the doctor ordered.
