So, where to begin.
I guess, first up, i should point out that this IS NOT anything like any dance music (or possibly even electronic music; it's not really dance anyway) you will ever have heard before. Don't try look at it as something that'll be the pumping climax of a 2-hour 3am DJ set, or even a filler track from the 8pm warm up set. And don't expect Minimal Techno (even though 'minimal' is in the genres, but more as minimalISM, a movement from 20th century music that involves very complexity that requires large amounts of repetition to make sense).

Now that i've got that down (sorry if it sounds a bit harsh, but it is important to mention these kinds of things), on to a lighter note Laughing out loud
This is a project that's been niggling me since i began production — other than dance music, i am quite into more complex music (20-21st century, modern/post-modernist composition, especially minimalism; not extreme atonality though... though this is all something that i can come back to later). This is the idea of creating odd time signature electronic dance-styled music (obviously not easily danced to though, because people just don't know how to move when you're apparently "losing" a quaver beat each bar, compared to 4x4 music, or even standard breaks). Thus i've pulled out a beastie in 7/8. Be warned that you might need to put yourself into the mindset for this kind of music, 'cos it makes even Richard D. James seem normal Sticking out tongue (well not really, but you know what kind of point i'm going for here Eye-wink).

Hope you can enjoy this track as much as i do (and did when making it... all the synths were hand synthesised by me (except for the drums, which are samples), and everything was programmed by me (ie no sample loops). Had lots of fun doing the FM synthesis (crazy stuff Sticking out tongue).

Enough rambling from me (or as Ryan's threads would say "rabbiting on") Laughing out loud

Peace,
C:s'm

P.S. I will give 50 Coin to anyone who can successfully use this track in the middle of a mix (like have a track before AND after it, both mixed properly - don't try beatmatching though Sticking out tongue) -- oh it's one of the first UD competitions Sticking out tongue

Well what a soundscape
5

Well what a soundscape you've created here Monsieur Csm:

'A dark enchantment' indeed it is -

It is certainly categorized into Electronica if you need a categorization of some sort. And yes it would be perfect performed in a big room with some spaced out art - fluro psychedelic-like

Is there more of this in you? Cause I could've kept listening for another 3-4 monutes-

Look forward to more psychedelic electonica yah!!! Cool

ok sure PM me your email

ok sure PM me your email address so i can send it. You sure you'll be able to mix this in? it IS 7/8 time sig (7 1/8th notes to a bar) whereas dance music is (4/4 four quarter notes to a bar). I'm intrigued to see how you will mix this!

Top quality production here

Top quality production here CSM, and I can tell a lot of work has gone into creating it - well done. Smiling 7/8 is such a complex time sig!

Admittedly I thought the kick was a bit heavy for the synths, that was the first thing that struck me. I thought it was a bit overwhelming at times and could probably have been normalised a little.

The other thing is that at the 2:00 mark I was getting a bit bored with it, and I was wondering if it was going to "take off" somehow. At about 2:20 it did but I kinda felt I had to wait too long for it.. I know this isn't dance music, though, and that's not at all what I expected - just wanted a progression of some sort.

Apart from that I thought the tune was top notch! My question is, though, if you recognise this to be electronica and not dance, why would you want someone to mix it? It's a good challenge, don't get me wrong (and one I've been thinking about!), but maybe it would be better to keep this in its place..? It really belongs on an album.

Great work mate

Luke

i see what you mean with the

i see what you mean with the mixing thing, but i though it'd be fun to put out there. also, to go along with the album comment, i do have a really cool idea for the album, and i am currently working on 2 other tracks (though one is going downhill and might be scrapped) for the aforementioned album. I'll hopefully have an other track up; one maybe even crazier than this one (be afraid) Sticking out tongue

Awesome track. I really like the Acidic lead in the second half of the song. I do think it takes to long to build however, but that's just a matter of opinion. Thumbs up.

if it helps you count it,

if it helps you count it, you can think of it as 4/8 + 3/8, which is the way i structured the groupings within the bars. Also, to mix this you'd need to get really eccentric in you mixing styles Sticking out tongue like massive breakdowns or looping it is a more strange way. Have fun, i say!

All these odds and ends and they work together perfectly...like this really this got my head moving. Smiling
Wonderful job on the syths man u certainly nailed them without a doubt. Yes this is a complex track with all the syths used and the drumb sample etc...but yet simple i cant explain it...it just really flowed with me.

I guess i could find/make 2 similar tracks to go with this since this is more of me n my crews field of music production but i wouldnt want to wreck such a great track...50 coins or not this track deserves to stand out above the rest with pride...its jsut soo great Smiling

Definetly one of my fave tracks on undiscovered...just love it and respects all round man...it takes a great mind to make such a great track.

Hey all! Thanks for the

Hey all! Thanks for the great feedback... loving it.

I can see why people are saying that it didn't "go anywhere" or "progress" in the first 2 minutes, but i felt as though it needed to go on for a bit longer... make it more hypnotic if you know what i mean. Also, because of the odd sig, i decided to let it brew for a bit, so the listener could really get it to fit.

And in response to the "why would anyone mix this, cos it's not dance music (you said it your self blah blah blah)" remark, i know. It's meant to be the kind of track that is very difficult to mix successfully, and i am intrigued to know how someone would go about doing this, and making it gel. You know, for the fun Sticking out tongue

Hope get more NOT 4/4 tracks up for all yall xD

Peace,

5 stars for innovation my friend! This was fantastic! You were right to prepare the listener to get ready for a different sound that they hadn't heard before. By putting all preconceptions aside I was able to really appreciate this.

Had a really cool blend of mystery and menace and would sound perfect at a doof filled with dreadlocked barefoot hippies - they would probably find a way to dance to it! lol

Minimalism indeed!

So has anyone taken you up on your challenge yet? If so I'd love to hear the results!

I think fishn is going to try mix it, but he hasn't actually put anything up as yet. I'm equally as enthralled to see how this could be used in a mix as you are Laughing out loud
