bio
Tom Lambell has lived 17 out of his total 19 years of life in rural Queensland. This is the least likely place you would find electronic music being produced and DJ'd but this never deterred Tom and after moving to Brisbane at 18 his "country styling" has successfully obtained him many gigs around Brisbane. But we are getting ahead of ourselves.
Tom grew up in the small town of Woolooga and from a very young age there was definite interest in electronic music. As a child he would sit up on a Saturday night listening to "Mix-Up" on Triple J and recalls once listening to "Trance" and noting at the time "I really understand why they call it trance, I fell asleep so easily" (Tom Lambell aged 9). This progressed into discovering the popular big beat/electronica styles of Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers & Underworld before moving onto Hard Trance at the age of 13.
At this point Tom decide DJ'ing was something he would like to try. Going to central station on a rare trip to Brisbane from Woolooga and playing with a CDJ1000 gave Tom his first taste of DJ'ing and from that point on he was determined to get his hands on a pair of decks. However it would be 3 years before Tom would be able to get his hands on his precious Technics. In this time a Jeff Mills DVD was purchased and a paradigm shift in audio occurred with Tom deciding that Techno was a sound progressing at a much better rate than hard trance, which was being flooded by hardstyle at the time. A trip to Melbourne with all his Hard Trance vinyl saw it all being traded in to buy Techno tracks and we have the final DJ we see today!
Since moving to Brisbane Tom has played gigs such as the InTheMix.com.au Members Party 2006, Plexus^1, Monday Night @ Birdee Num Num, A swag of Birdee Num Num Open Dex and just as many House Parties. Currently he holds a weekly slot on KrankyDigital.com every Wednesday night.
favourite artists & labels
Haha well I probably got into dance music via the big names like The Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Fatboy Slim & The Prodigy. When I was in primary school I use to stay up and listen to Mix Up on Triple J but I can't really remember who I was listening to (unfortunately!).
My favourite artists include Jeff Mills, Surgeon, Ben Sims, Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Oliver Huntemann, Cirez D, Samuel L. Session, Oliver Ho, Underground Resistance, Adam Jay, Richie Hawtin, Magda, Ricardo Villalobos...waaaay way more but I can't think of them off the top of my head!
